A special delivery for city of Whittlesea seniors is on the way, with a free high tea from local cafes available to mark the Victorian Seniors Festival.

The event for over-55 year olds, celebrated on Wednesday, October 13, will see treats from small businesses around the municipality delivered free of charge to registrants to enjoy, along with an online meeting with singer Brian Espiner.

The deliveries are part of Whittlesea council’s efforts to celebrate the 2021 Victorian Seniors Festival Reimaged, which is running until Sunday, October 31.

Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said a creative approach was needed to celebrate the occasion this year, as Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdowns had impeded the traditional festivities.

“Many seniors have dealt with social isolation during the pandemic, so we’re really excited to offer this new initiative,” Ms Wilson said.

“Our older residents in the city of Whittlesea are so valuable to us all and they deserve to be celebrated throughout this month.

“We also know many of our small businesses are doing it tough, so the high tea initiative is a small way we can show our support, and hopefully brighten the lives of our valued senior community.

“I look forward to meeting people and enjoying good food, music and a chat.”

Other calendar highlights during the festival are free online seniors’ exercise classes, an online music and dance party, and art and laughter therapy classes.
