New COVID-19 cases in Craigieburn made up 10 per cent of today’s total recorded cases, chief health officer Brett Sutton has announced.

Professor Sutton said the suburb in Melbourne’s north recorded 71 new cases of the virus over the past 24 hours.

“The northern suburbs continues to see the majority of new cases,” he said.

Professor Sutton said 58 per cent – or 427 – of the day’s 733 new locally acquired cases were in the northern suburbs.

Hume recorded 243 new cases, with Professor Sutton confirming 58 new cases in Roxburgh Park, and 20 in Meadow Heights.

Professor Sutton urged caution over the AFL Grand Final weekend, asking Victorians to celebrate a win or commiserate a loss within the lockdown restrictions.

“Tomorrow’s a day many, many Victorians… have been looking forward to,” he said.

“Everyone in Victoria deserves to enjoy the day, and I hope everyone will.

“But there is a curfew in place… we don’t want to see crowds… after the match or on Sunday.

“It is those close contacts that put you, your friends, and your households at risk.”
