A vehicle has been impounded after allegedly being detected speeding in Thomastown this morning.

Greensborough Highway Patrol impounded a silver Nissan Pulsar after allegedly observing it travelling erratically on Cooper Street in Epping about 2am.

Police said the car was detected travelling at 95 km/h on Metropolitan Ring Road where the speed had been reduced to 40km/h due to road works.

Police intercepted the vehicle and determined the driver to be unlicensed.

The vehicle has been impounded for 30 days at a cost of $896.10.

A 19-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons with unlicensed driving and exceeding the speed limit.
