VTCA T20 semi finalists set

Three of the four semi finals in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 group A finals will be senior division teams, while two division 5 teams are among the semi finalists in the group B competitions.

Quarter finals for both competitions were played on Tuesday night with some thrilling results across the board.

Collapse costly for Gorillas

Keilor had a good win against Grand United in its match at Keith Miller Oval. The Blues won the toss and decided to bat, making 6-160. Former Sri Lankan international Dimuth Karunarathna showed his class with 71 off 45 balls. Leo Turnbull-Gent and Hashan James took two wickets each for the Blues. The Gorillas had a strong start and at 3-106 had plenty of wickets up their sleeve. While they tried to increase the run rate the wickets fell and they lost to 4-10 and lost momentum. The Gorillas finished 8-135. Kyle Welsh top scored with 43. Malith Cooray took 4-21.

Deer Park continues on

Deer Park is also through to the next round, as it accounted for Oak Park St Francis de Sales. The Saints made 8-128 from their overs with Blake McKinnon top scoring with 23. Jair McAllister took 3-31 for the Lions. The Lions, who finished runners-up in last season’s competition, made 5-130 as they hit the winning runs with three overs to spare. Captain Aaron Ayre top scored with 29 not out in the middle order.

Crows fall short

Airport West St Christopher’s are also through after sneaking home against Sunshine. The Eagles made 4-135 from their 20 overs with Ben Walkden top scoring with 45 not out. Melisha Deshapriya took 2-19 for the Crows.

After an early wicket, the Crows got back on track and were in a good place at 5-110. The wickets started to fall and the Crows were bowled out for 128 with seven balls remaining. Muhammad Shakeel top scored with 30 for the Crows.

Imperials continue good form

In the remaining match, Williamstown Imperials won through to the next round with victory against Haig Fawkner. The Imperials’ made 7-150 from their overs with Andrew Hendry making 61 at the top of the order. Haig was bowled out in the second last over for 123. Hendry was again the star of the show as he took 4-9 off his four overs. The Imperials, who are on top in division 2, are the only non-senior division team through to the next round in pool A.

Dragons upset Kangaroos

Barkly St Uniting upset the Greenvale Kangaroos with one ball remaining in pool B. The Kangaroos made 5-132 from their overs with Kanishk Bollu top scoring 53. Eiffel Soza and Jaskaran singh Gill took two wickets each. The Dragons timed their run to perfection, finishing 8-133. Singh Gill top scored with 63.

Thriller for Burnside

Burnside Springs United won through on the final ball against Kingsville. Kingsville made 5-139 from its overs with Joshua Kelly taking 2-14 for Burnside. Mathison King guided Burnside to the win as it hit the winning runs off the final ball, finishing 3-140. King finished 64 not out.

Roys win through

Sunshine Heights run came to an end at the hands of Glenroy. Glenroy made 6-123 from its overs. Ragulraj Devarasa top scored with 51. It was all single wicket takers for Heights. Kunal Minhas made 30 at the top of the order for Heights but no one else could get going. Heights was bowled out for 92 in the 17th over.

Warriors continue on

Point Cook is also through to the next round after beating East Coburg. East Coburg made 7-146 from its overs, with the Warriors sharing the wickets around. The Warriors middle order set the tone as they finished 7-147. Chathura Demuni top scored with 42.
