Finals set in DVCA smash

The final pool rounds are done and it’s now onto finals in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association summer smash competition,

In the Barclay Shield, just one round six match went ahead.

All the matches were scheduled for 27 January, but didn’t go ahead due to the hot weather.

Epping and Riverside, and North Eltham Wanderers and Heidelberg’s match were declared abandoned and the teams shared the points.

Rosebank forfeited its match with Bundoora United to give the Bulldogs the points.

Rosanna beat Diamond Creek in the match that did go ahead on Tuesday night by nine runs.

Epping will face the Wanderers and Rosanna will play Riverside in the semi finals on Tuesday night.

In the Money Shield, all round six matches went ahead.

In pool A, Research Eltham Collegians beat Montmorency and Banyule beat Eltham.

Mernda and Lalor Stars both picked up wins on Tuesday night in pool B to seal their finals spots.

The Demons were away against Bundoora Park.

Batting first the Demons made 6-131 from their overs.

Ben Wilcox top scored with 68.

Hayden Culph and Harry Sellick took two wickets each for the Thunderbolts.

Despite getting eight runs off the final over, the Thunderbolts fell short, finishing 7.125.

Bronson Hill top scored with 47.

Lachlan Taylor and Caleb Leckstrom took two wickets each for the Demons.

The Stars made light work of Greensborough’s total to finish on top of pool B.

Greensborough was restricted to 6-103 from its overs.

Stars’ skipper Ethan Baade took 3-21.

The openers did most of the work for the Stars, putting on 100 for the first wicket.

While Luke Miranda was out for 46, it mattered little with the Stars finishing 1-107 in 11 overs.

Josh Nixon finished 56 not out.

In the semi finals, the Demons will face the Collegians, while the Stars will host Lower Plenty.

In the Mash Shield, Rivergum sealed its spot on top of its pool with a win against Mill Park.

The Tigers made 4-117 with Chris Taylor top scoring with 47 before being run out.

The Kookas made the runs with two and half overs remaining, finishing 3-122.

Skipper Matt Perri made 79 not out off 55 balls.

In pool D, Dennis beat Lower Eltham to finish at the top of pool D.

In pool A, Thomastown finished its campaign with a loss to Keon Park.

Keon Park made 3-167 from its overs Oliver Capaldo top scoring with 55.

Thomastown made 9-102 in reply.

There was no score available for Laurimar and Panton Hill.

Hurstbridge will finish top of that pool.

Semi finals are set down for 10 February.
