Lowery new Whittlesea Pacers’ women’s coach

Damon Lowery will step up to the head-coaching role for Whittlesea Pacers’ women’s side.

Lowery, who was assistant coach of the Big V division 1 side this season, was named as the side’s new coach last week.

Lowry said he met with the committee and they had decided to give him a shot.

He replaces Hayley Munro, who was player coach this season.

Lowry said he didn’t know whether Munro would remain on as a player.

The Pacers finished the regular season in fifth and were knocked out by the Geelong Supercats in the opening week of finals.

Lowery said he was yet to look at the squad for next season, but said they would need to look to add a couple more players.

He said they would let the dust settle on this season before starting to plan

“We haven’t met to talk about the playing roster,” he said.

“We’ll see who is available from last season’s team. There are always a few changes and we will look who is keen and who has retired.

“Obviously we had enough to make finals, but not enough to win any finals.”

The Pacers other three Big V head coaches have all re-signed for next season.

Brain Vaughns will coach the men’s side for a third season, Alex Thorn will coach the youth league men’s side, while Shannon Bodley will against coach the youth league women’s side.

Lowery, who is also one of the club’s coaching directors, said they were hoping to build on this season.

“We’ll continue to look at some things to help us improve,” he said.

“We want to build on what we’re doing.”
