Northern Thunder lost the opening round of the Victorian Rugby League season to the Altona Roosters.
The Roosters were too good in first and second division, defeating the Thunder 30-10 and 70-6 respectively.
Meanwhile, Mernda will field teams in the junior competition for the first time this year.
