Seven weeks ago Lalor United changed its coach and the switch has worked wonders.
United was sitting mid table in FFV’s state league 3 north-west but has won five of the past seven matches.
“It’s a good situation we’re in at the moment,” club secretary Alexander Andrevski said before the weekend’s match.
Andrevski said the decision to change the coach came with the introduction of a new committee.
“Nick Cuculeski [the new coach] has a good relationship with the players and he has been at the club before,” he said.
“He’s bought a couple of old players back to the club and we’re already in talks to bring a few more next year.
“He has a more attacking mode of soccer.
“We’re in a good place moving forward. We wanted someone young and for the future.”
United is fifth on the ladder with 27 points, after a 1-0 loss to Whittlesea United on Saturday.
They are 14 points behind leaders Essendon Royals but only six adrift of Old Carey, who are in the box seat to get the second promotion spot.
“We lost points because Northern Roosters withdrew,” Andrevski said.
“We beat them and we could have been higher on the ladder if we still had those points.”
Andrevski said FFV held a meeting during the week about further changes to points following the Roosters’ withdrawal from the competition.
He said he was still waiting for the outcome but it appeared no changes had been made to the ladder.
Whittlesea United’s win puts them in seventh on the ladder with seven wins.
In state league 2 north west, Sporting Whittlesea beat Melbourne University 3-0, while Hume United lost 3-1 to Yarraville.
Watsonia Heights and Meadow Park Eagles drew 1-1 in state league 4 north.
In other results, Epping City beat Upfield 2-1, West Preston beat Darebin United 3-2, Fawkner was too good for Northern Falcons winning 2-0, Bundoora United defeated Parkville Panthers 2-1 and Plenty Valley Lions had a 5-2 win against Heidelberg Eagles.
