South Morang had to come from behind to beat St Mary’s in division 3 of the Northern Football League on Saturday. The Lions were held goalless in the first and third quarters and trailed by 22 points at three-quarter time. But the Lions kicked six goals to two in the last to win 11.9 (75) to 10.11 (71). Jake Hough booted four for the Lions, who are third on the ladder, three games ahead of fourth. Top side Thomastown had the bye.

Junction Coosts are premiers in the Northern Darts Association A-grade after a 6-0 grand final win over the Westside Dockers. In B-grade, Watsonia Fill-Ins won their grand final over Watsonia Saints 6-3. Pres/Res Lakies Blue won the C-grade premiership, also 6-3, over Doutta Jets.

Whittlesea Ranges earned a hard- fought 1-1 draw against Sunshine George Cross in soccer’s National Premier League 1 at Epping Stadium on Friday night. The Ranges scored first through Tomislav Trbuhovich in the 16th minute with the only real chance of the half. The visitors dominated the second half and hit back with a goal by Manuell Sadik in the 73rd minute. This week, Ranges meet top-of-the-table Avondale Heights.

Vic Metro was too good for Vic Country in the AFL Victoria Community Cup at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday. Vic Metro, which included four players from the Essendon District Football League players and seven from the Northern league, kicked away in the second quarter and was never headed, winning 18.17 (125) to 13. 9 (87). EDFL’s Nat Caruso, who captained the side, kicked two goals, while NFL’s Patrick Fitzgerald kicked three goals and Jesse Donaldson two.
