The clean-up goes on after the Mickleham-Donnybrook fires in March this year.
Taking advantage of mild autumn weather, Craigieburn’s State Emergency Service (SES) unit tackled the many fallen trees littering paddocks and roadsides in the wake of the
fires.
Helped by Broadmeadows SES and the Craigieburn Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), volunteers gave up their last weekend before winter to unblock local roads and show their support for neighbours still in
recovery.
Craigieburn SES unit controller Martin Ledwich said it was important to continue to support fire victims through the entire recovery phase.
“It’s of no surprise to me that we have an overwhelming response from our volunteers, who are willing to dedicate a weekend away from their families in support of fire victims,” he said.
“We live, work and play alongside many who were affected, and this is another chance for us to help. We assisted during the fires and we’ll be here until our community has fully recovered.”
