Twelve Hume and Whittlesea sports clubs have received up to $3000 each out of $1.8 million of VicHealth ‘Active Club’ grants to fund new sport and safety equipment.
Bundoora United, Epping, Mernda Senior, South Morang and Jacana Junior football clubs, North East Blaze Netball Club, Plenty Cricket Club, Whittlesea Bowls Club, Mill Park Swim Club, Bundoora Calisthenic Club, Bundoora Tennis Club and La Trobe University Squash Club were among the 742 Victorian clubs that received the grants.
VicHealth chief executive Jerril Rechter said the grants would help clubs tackle the two main barriers preventing people from taking part in sport and active recreation: cost and injury.
“These grants aim to make it a little easier for clubs to encourage people to join, fund items or equipment and help them improve the safety of those taking part,” Ms Rechter said.
