WHAT’S ON: Northern suburbs

STREET SMART

Urban & Iconic showcases street art styles from local and internationally renowned artists practising in Melbourne. This exhibition, featuring graffiti, paste-ups (paper cut-outs), stencil art and paintings by Jaws, Conrad, Kaff-ienne, Adnate, E.L.K., Tom Civil, Ears, Slicer and Choq, runs in conjunction with National Youth Week. At Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, the expo is presented by the centre in partnership with Community Safety, Darebin council and Juddy Roller Studios. It’s free and open until Sunday, April 27, at 7-27 Snake Gully Drive, Bundoora.

MAKE A MOSAIC

If the kids have an artistic streak, take them to a mosaic craft session where they can use coloured squares to make laminated placemats. It’s suited to ages 5-12. On Tuesday, April 8, 2-4pm, at Sunbury library, 44 Macedon Street. Free.

HOT CROSS BUNDRAISER

Bakers Delight stores across Victoria, including in the Hume area, are planning to bake more than 140,000 hot cross buns this Saturday.  Known as Bundraiser Day, the franchise raises money for the Royal Children’s Hospital’s various causes, donating $1 from the sale of every hot cross bun six-pack. Bundraiser organisers aim to raise more than $40,000 towards funding a Haag-Streit Slit Lamp, which is used by ophthalmologists for improved diagnosis and management of eye conditions in young patients.

YOUNG VOICES

An exhibition of youth arts in Hume, Our Voice, Our Impact celebrates National Youth Week and is also the theme for this year’s event. Hume council’s youth services team will showcase many youth projects in
this expo, which includes work in visual art, short films and creative writing. Runs until Sunday, April 27, at Craigieburn Gallery, 75–95 Central Park Avenue, Craigieburn. Entry is free.

GAME ON

Keen gamers can show off their skills and challenge other game enthusiasts at this PS3/Wii tournament. Participants have a chance to win an iTunes gift card. Free play will start after the tournament, which is suited to ages 10-18. On Tuesday, April 8, 1-2pm, at The Age Library, 1093 Pascoe Vale Road, Broadmeadows.

GET FRESH

The monthly Bundoora Farmers’ Market returns this weekend. Fresh, local produce, baked goods, freshly made pasta, locally grown olives, meats and cheeses, free-range eggs, homemade soap and beauty products will all be available. The market is this Saturday, April 5, at Bundoora Park, Plenty Road, from 8am-1pm. Entry is $2 an adult (children free). Proceeds go to local Rotary clubs.
