A remarkable second-innings comeback handed Glenroy the Victorian Turf Cricket Association North B1 title at the weekend and win promotion to North A1.
Glenroy was 49 in arrears of Avondale Heights after the first innings last weekend, but at stumps on day two had reduced their opponents to 5/20 in the second.
Avondale Heights’ lower order scored more runs than the recognised batsmen, but the innings crumbled to 67 all out.
Steve Goodwin led the way for Glenroy with 5/18, Michael Fabris took 3/45 and Chris Pipe picked up 2/4.
That left Glenroy with a target of 116 for a reverse outright victory and that was passed with four wickets down. Pipe top-scored with 45 not out.
“Our second innings was the polar opposite to our first,” president Tony Doolan said. “We set a goal to get ourselves out of this grade and we’ve achieved that.
“All year, whenever we have been under pressure someone has stood up and for our bowlers to do that in the second innings was fantastic.”
