Caravan trail heads to Campbellfield, Epping

While cars may be on the way out as the mainstay of manufacturing in Melbourne’s north, caravans, mobile homes and trailers are emerging as an auto industry to watch.

From hand-crafted and custom-built in Campbellfield to new-age in Epping, caravans and motor homes are coming into their own.

Even the Sunshine state has seen the value of expanding its southern horizons.

Last week Brisbane-based aluminium trailer fabricator Graham Lusty Trailers announced it will open a manufacturing plant on the Hume Highway at Campbellfield.

The new factory will have a spare-parts department and trailer-servicing workshop.

“We will be operational by the end of March,” owner Graham Lusty said.

The expansion and move down south means new local jobs for welders, fitters and mechanics.” Mr Lusty said anyone interested in a job should contact him.
