PLAY IT FORWARD

National Playgroup Week runs from March 24-30 and features some great celebrations around Hume. Events include story-telling, music workshops, and craft and Aboriginal cultural activities. And there’ll be lots of giveaways. Bring a picnic lunch. The first day’s action is on March 24, at Bicentennial Gardens, 235 Craigieburn Road West, Craigieburn. On March 25, head to Galaxy Land, Bellview Drive, Sunbury; and on March 26, Playgroup Week activities are at Jack Roper Reserve, 217 Camp Road, Broadmeadows. Each event, from 11am-1pm, is free.

LOCALLY GROWN

From learning about bee hotels and worm farms to composting, the Live Grow Explore Community Festival is a free event to give people of all ages information about homegrown sustainability initiatives. The festival features a bush tucker barbecue, ice-cream and live music. Children’s attractions include face-painting, pony rides and a native animal display. Supported by Landcare and Jemena, it is on Sunday, March 23, from 11am-3.30pm at Woodlands Historic Park, Oaklands Drive, Greenvale.

GO FLY A KITE

Featuring kite-flying against a backdrop of live music by local musicians, the Darebin Community and Kite Festival appeals to both kite enthusiasts and festival punters. Bring the family, fly a kite and learn about kite-making. On Sunday, March 23, from 11am-4pm at Edwardes Lake Park, Reservoir. Free.

UP IN THE CLOUDS

For business owners wondering if “cloud” services are for them, this information and communication technology workshop, Cloud Demystified, can help. The workshop is delivered by ICT experts and there will be a panel of presenters available to answer questions. All participants will receive a free and confidential one-on-one mentoring session (up to four hours, valued at $400) at the end of the session. On Wednesday, March 19, from 6-8pm at Whittlesea council offices, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang. Free. Registration essential.
