An innovative light display using cutting edge smartphone technology has been installed at Northland Shopping Centre.
The light display marks the unveiling of a $15 million entertainment and lifestyle precinct at the centre, with six new retailers to open this summer.
The ‘Northland Summer Lights’ enable shoppers to interact with the display via their smartphones.
Users can change the colour of the ‘sky’, flocks of birds, sparkles and bouncing beach balls.
The technology, developed by creative digital firm tkm9, was first used in a Melbourne art installation at the 2013 Gertrude Street Light Festival.
“We noticed a gap in the market where consumers wanted a much deeper and connected interaction within retail and digital signage,” tkm9 CEO Mark Hodgens said.
The firm partnered with Microsoft, Intel, Vodafone and NetComm to create the unique technology.
Northland Summer Lights runs until the end of February 2014.
