VSDCA: 21 wickets fall as RPB makes just 50

Lakeside Drive was a graveyard for batsmen on Saturday, with 21 wickets falling as Roxburgh Park-Broadmeadows and Noble Park scored just 119 runs between them.

Noble Park already has first-innings points in the bag after finding a way to make 56 a winning score in east-west first XI.

RPB had Noble Park 3-1 early after the visitors won the toss and batted, going on to reduce the score to 7-11.

Staring an historically low score in the face, Noble Park rallied with tail-end runs to get to 8-34, then 56 all out.

Mitchell Streiff was the wrecker with 7-21, while Patrick Matautaava took 3-13.

But batting on the wicket proved just as tough for RPB, the only two batsmen to reach double figures being Tim Branagan (10) and Jedidah Kanagasabapathy (12), each of whom fell in a streak of wickets that left the chase at 4-22.

More wickets followed at regular intervals as RPB was ousted for 50 by the 24th over. Noble Park survived the last 10 overs to stumps, being 1-13, a lead of 19 heading into day two this Saturday.

In north-south first XI, Plenty Valley batted almost all day to make 207 against Moorabbin at Moorleigh Community Village, with Andrew Bennett (63), Lorenzo Ingram (48) and Dylan Forster (39) top scorers. Moorabbin lost a late wicket and will resume at 1-4 this Saturday.

In DVCA Barclay Shield, a new round of two-dayers started with Bundoora posting 190 against North Eltham Wanderers. Andrew Fairchild (57) and Shupinder Taggar (54) top scored for the Bulls. North Eltham lost a late wicket and resumes at 1-2 this weekend.
