Melbourne Victory’s women bounced back from a disastrous opening to the W-League season with a 2-0 win against Adelaide United on Saturday.
Beaten 5-1 by Sydney FC in the first round, Melbourne squared its season with a goal either side of half time at Burton Park.
Star signing Lisa De Vanna opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after a foul on Enza Barilla.
Caitlin Friend then headed in a cross from Steph Catley in the 59th minute to double Victory’s lead.
Friend, who played for Bundoora United throughout winter, has an appetite for scoring against Adelaide United, with six career W-League goals to her name against the Reds already.
Melbourne heads to Perth this weekend before the W-League breaks for Australia’s international series against China.
