Whittlesea’s
Chinese and Vietnamese communities will team up for the first time for
this year’s Mooncake Mid-Autumn Festival.

The festival is celebrated at the time of the mid-autumn full
moon, and traditionally marks the end of the harvest season. It now
symbolises family, thanksgiving and eating mooncakes, made from lotus
seed paste with an egg yolk at the centre.
Whittlesea Chinese Association president Albert Yew said the
festival was celebrated in China and Vietnam, but each countries
celebration was quite different.
He said the September 15 festival in Whittlesea would be an opportunity to compare each community’s tradition.
There will be mooncakes, activities and a lantern-making competition.
The free event is from 1.30pm to 6.30pm at the Barry Road Community Activity Centre, 36 Barry Road, Lalor.
