Plenty Valley cricket coach Michael Sheedy steps down

Plenty Valley Cricket Club is on the hunt for a new coach after Michael Sheedy stepped down for health reasons.

The club announced on its social media account today that Sheedy would not coach or play with the Victorian Sub-District side next season.

Club president Darren Callahan said while it was disappointing to loss Sheedy, his health was the number one priority.

“He has some stuff to deal with and he needs to step back to take some time,” Callahan said.

“It’s not lifethreatening but he came to the decision last week to resign and look after his health.”

Callahan said Sheedy had been a massive influence at the club as a player, captain and coach, and hoped that he would still remain involved in the club in an informal role.

“He’s a great coach and a people’s coach,” Callahan said.

“He sets good programs and was coach of our premiership side [in 201415]. They are very big shoes to fill.

“While he wasn’t captain this year, we’ll still miss his onfield leadership.”

The Bats have already started looking for a new coach and were hoping to fill the role as soon as possible.

“It’s a good gig and we’ve got a good list,” Callahan said.

“Ideally we would like a playing coach, but we’re not ruling out nonplaying coaches either. A lot of good coaches are no longer playing.”
