Lalor Warriors were the big winners in the North Metro Cricket Association’s Jika Shield on Saturday without a ball even being bowled.

Rain and wet grounds prevented play in all four matches on Saturday, leaving teams to sit and watch.

The Warriors, who had already secured first innings points over North Brunswick/Rosebank , were the only side to get a win, with the other three matches declared draws.

On day one of the match, North Brunswick/Rosebank was bowled out for just 101. Lakmal Keerthirathna was the destroyer with the ball taking six wickets.

The Warriors easily chased down the runs and were 5-117 at stumps.

They will face reigning premier Rivergum in a one -day match this weekend.

As in the Jika Shield, not many sides in the other North Metro grades were able to finish their matches.

The Cobras were the only winners in the Quick Shield, defeating Preston YCW District, while in the Kelly Shield, West Preston defeated Strathewen and Dennis was too good for Preston Footballers.
