Saver plus turns 21

The Brotherhood of St Laurence has celebrated 21 years of its saver plus program in Mernda.

The Saver Plus program, initiated by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, has been a beacon of support for individuals and families across Australia for over two decades.

By encouraging regular savings habits and offering matched savings, Saver Plus has empowered countless Australians achieve their financial goals, whether it’s purchasing educational supplies or investing in vocational training.

McEwen MP Rob Mitchell and Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth attended the Jindi Family and Community Centre in Mernda to celebrate the occasion.

The pair met with program participants, volunteers and staff members to gain firsthand insights into the transformative effects of the program.

“The Saver Plus program embodies the spirit of community and empowerment. For 21 years, it has been instrumental in fostering financial independence and bridging socio-economic disparities. I commend the Brotherhood of St Laurence and all stakeholders involved for their dedication to helping individuals and families thrive,” Mr Mitchell said.

“As Australians continue to navigate economic challenges and social inequalities, the recognition for initiatives like Saver Plus reaffirm the government’s recognition of the vital role played by community-driven programs that enhance financial literacy and empower individuals and families to achieve their aspirations.”
