Lalor Warriors’ hopes of a top‐two finish are well and truly alive after day one of the match against Rivergum in North Metro Cricket Association’s Jika Shield.
It was the first time the teams had met this season after a wash‐out in their other scheduled match and it was the match the Warriors had been waiting for.
They wanted to test themselves against the two‐time reigning premier, which had lost only one NMCA match all season.
The Warriors beat Rivergum in the semi‐finals of the Northern Region T20 competition and their bowlers did the job again on Saturday, bowling them out for 168.
Shane Hicks took three wickets, while Bradley Winther took 2‐26 off 14 overs.
Nicholas Christie tied up one end for much of the innings, bowling 20 straight overs for figures of 1‐21.
The Warriors were two points behind second‐placed Northcote United going into the final round.
United will resume at 1‐5 on Saturday chasing Keon Park’s 163.
Rivergum will finish on top of the ladder unless they lose and there’s an unexpected outright result in the Northcote‐Keon Park game.
