Little Aths: Whittlesea shines at region titles

Shehana Wijesundara was the standout for Whittlesea City Little Athletics centre at the northern metro region track and field championships last weekend.

She won four events in under-11 girls events, 60 and 80 metres hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

She broke the region record in all four events and the Victorian best performance in the 80 metre hurdles.

The four medals were among a massive 120 won by the centre at the championships, with 38 gold, 38 silver and 34 bronze.

Other standout performers included Thomas Sims, who broke the region record in the under-10 high jump.

The under-11 girls took home a total of nine golds, winning every field event, both hurdles events and the 1500 metre walk.

The centre will have 62 competitors at the state championships on March 19 and 20.
