Greenvale Kangaroos coach Stan Nell is hoping to go out on a high in his last game as senior coach of the club’s Premier Cricket side.
Nell will finish up as the club’s senior coach after day two of the club’s match against Northcote after two years at the helm.
Nell said he would have liked to have stayed on as coach, but he understands and supports the direction the club is heading.
He said he would wait until after the season finished to decide what his coaching future laid.
Nell said the thing best aspect of his time as head coach of the Kangaroos was the development of the players.
“We’ve won five games and lost another four games by one run,” he said. “If we won those games we would be in the mix for finals.
“We’ve recruited a lot of young players and they’re developing nicely.
“Kyle Adams, Aaron Smillie and Trent Waring are all in the top 20 bowlers in Premier Cricket. We had two players in the under-17 state team and a number of players in the under-19 squad.”
The Kangaroos have a fight on their hands to finish the season with a win.
On Saturday, Northcote made 231.
Kyle Adams was the pick of the bowlers for the Kangaroos with four wickets.
In reply, the Kangaroos were 2-67 at stumps.
Sunam Gautam made a quick-fire 45.
Zaheer Hussain (15no) and Lachlan King (4no) are the two unbeaten batsmen.
