Greenvale came away with the win in a genuine, hard-fought scrap in the Essendon District Football League premier division grand final rematch against Aberfeldie.

In a low scoring game, neither side was able to apply scoreboard pressure, with the intensity building to a thrilling finish.

The Jets led by 10 points at the last change, and held on to win 7.6 (48)-6.10 (46).

Jets coach Paul Chapman said it was a ripper of a game.

“There wasn’t much scoring and it was a high pressure and highly contested game,” he said.

“Both sides missed easy shots, but that was because of the pressure put on by both sides.

“And we were up for the challenge. The boys played well.

“They are the sort of games that you really want to get the win.”

Chapman said it was a real team effort, with every player contributing at some point.

He said Fabian Deluca was probably the standout.

“His strong presence really helped his teammates out,” Chapman said.

The win puts the Jets 3-0 with a bye this week.

Chapman said they were looking at the season in monthly blocks and had a big tick for the first block.

“We haven’t even talked about finals or anything yet.

“[We] work on being a better team each week. The results are good and we’re showing improvement each week.

“We hope that it keeps going.”

The good start to the season is despite being without a few key players.

Addam Maric missed round one while Courtenay Dempsey played his first game of the season in the reserves on Saturday.

Chapman said he didn’t think Dempsey was too far away from playing seniors.

“He knows where he’s at and it’s not too far away.”

Chapman said they had looked within for players to step up.

“Most pleasing thing is the young guys who played the majority of last season in the twos are stepping up and filling the spots of the guys we’ve lost.

“Matthew Koroneos and Jayden Ranno are adjusting to senior football.

“Ryan Mills has played up forward and been solid all year for us.

“There’s still a lot of guys knocking on the door. The guys who played on the weekend are making it hard.”

In other results, Westmeadows came from behind against Oak Park on Anzac Day.

The Tigers hit the front late in the third quarter and stayed there until the end of the game, winning 14.17 (101)-12.7 (79).

Dean Clare kicked six goals in a best on ground performance for the Tigers.

Craigieburn remains undefeated, easily accounting for Jacana.

The Eagles winning, 31.14 (200)-12.5 (77).
