Hume United breaks drought

Hume United collected its first points of the season with a 2-1 win over Essendon United in FFV state league 2 north-west on Saturday.

Both sides went into the match at Laura Douglas Reserve without a win, and it was Hume that took the initiative with a goal in the first half.

That made all the difference as both teams scored once after half-time.

Tarcan Kefeli and Enes Gurkan were the scorers for Hume.

In other state league 2 north-west matches, Sporting Whittlesea suffered a 2-1 loss to Geelong, all the goals coming in the first half.

It was a mixed day for the northern-based clubs in state league 3 north-west.

Whittlesea United and Fawkner drew 1-1 at Thomastown Street Reserve, while Upfield lost 3-2 to Melbourne City, Lalor United was smashed 3-0 by Melbourne University and Westvale was too good for La Trobe University, winning 2-0.

In state league 4 north, Northern Falcons were the big winners smashing Bundoora United 6-1.

In other results, Epping City defeated FC Strathmore 2-1, Plenty Valley Lions lost 2-0 to Boroondara Eagles Carey, while Mill Park and Marcellin Old Collegians drew 2-2.

Craigieburn won its first state league match ever, with a 4-2 win over Meadow Park in state league 5 north.

Meadow Park took the early initiative and led 2-0 at half-time but Craigieburn clicked and scored four second-half goals through Dean Santello, Paul Murphy, Ahmad Bakri and Taner Altanhan.

Greenvale United was also on the winners’ list, beating Melbourne University 3-2.
