Craigieburn falls short

Craigieburn’s campaign got off to a tough start in the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket north west A one-day competition.

After making it through to the T20 grand final, Craigieburn was hoping to continue that same form in the longer format against Hoppers Crossing.

Craigieburn sent Hoppers Crossing in, with the Cats bowled out for 155 in the final over.

Taylah Steadman made 71 and Brianna Herman made 50, with the next highest run scorer making four.

However Craigieburn conceded 39 extras.

Taylah Logie took three wickets for Craigieburn and Rebecca Lines and Maria Va’auli took two wickets each.

Craigieburn looked on track but was bowled out for 149, seven runs short.

Tullamarine also lost a thriller to Melbourne University in its opening one-day match.

The Demons made 7-150 but University made the runs with four balls remaining.

Natasha Ziegelaar took two wickets for the Demons, as University finished 7-153.

Altona Roosters had an easy win against Carlton-Brunswick 3.

Ballarat Women’s had the bye.

In the VTCA women’s competition, Westmeadows and Greenvale Kangaroos had easy wins. Westmeadows needed just 12 overs to make 2-58 in reply to Glenroy’s 6-57.

The Kangaroos, who have joined the VTCA competition this round after playing in the CVWCCC competition earlier in the season, defeated St Andrews. The Kangaroos made 8-130 before restricting St Andrews to 8-91.
