Craigieburn Eagles drop game one

Craigieburn Eagles will have to do it the hard way if they’re to claim the Big V women’s division 2 championship.

The Eagles, who were the first team through to the grand final, fell to Blackburn Vikings in game one of the grand final series at the weekend.

With form and confidence, the Vikings got off to a flying start in game one on Saturday night and led the Eagles by 16 points at half-time.

The Eagles found their groove in the third quarter and were able to halve the margin heading into the final quarter.

They weren’t able to continue that momentum, with the Vikings increasing the margin to 12 points early in the last quarter.

The Eagles were never able to get any closer than seven points, as the Vikings won 61-49.

Allanna Procak top scored with 12 points for the Eagles, with Nicole Cameron the only other player in double figures.

It was a poor shooting night for the Eagles.

They shot at just 27 per cent from the field and made just two of 15 three-point attempts.

Their free throws weren’t great either, hitting just 51 per cent from the line.

The Eagles will be hoping a return to their home court will help get them going this weekend.

Game two is being played on Saturday night and if needed, game three will be played on Sunday, both at Craigieburn.
