The Northern Football League is turning to tap water and reusable bottles to minimise its impact on the environment.
The league has teamed up with Yarra Valley Water’s “choose tap”
program to stop more than half-a-million disposable water bottles going
to landfill each season.
YVW’s research shows that a player drinks about 1.5 litres during a
game, or 11,500 litres across the teams – the equivalent of more than
32,850 350ml plastic bottles.
“When you think about 32,850 bottles across an 18-round league …
that’s the equivalent of about 591,000 bottles the “choose tap” program
is preventing from going to landfill every year,” YVW managing director Tony Kelly said.
