Whittlesea, Hume among highest COVID-19 cases

Whittlesea and Hume remain two of the most COVID-19 infected municipalities, with the latter recording over 1000 cases today alone.

According to new health department data, of the 40,127 cases of the virus reported today, 1135 were reported in Hume, while 875 were recorded in Whittlesea.

The total active cases of the virus in Hume as of Wednesday, January 12 was 4867, while in Whittlesea there were 4232 cases.

The department said 946 people are currently in hospital with the virus.

Acting Health Minister James Merlino said 18.6 per cent of Victorians aged 18 years and over have received a third dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
