Police impounded a vehicle in Campbellfield last night after it was observed being driven erratically on Sharps Road.

Police allege an 18-year-old male driver deliberately accelerated, causing the car to lose traction on the road about 11pm.

Officers intercepted the vehicle and it was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $896.10.

A Pascoe Vale man is expected to be charged on summons with failing to have proper control of a motor vehicle.

In a separate incident, police stopped another vehicle on the Western Ring Road about the same time.

A 20-year-old Rowville man was issued with a penalty notice for exceeding peer restrictions in his Ford Falcon.

Acting Sergeant Stephen Little said the two incidents were a “timely reminder” that police can intercept anyone on the road at any time.

“Both these young men are inexperienced drivers and there are reasons conditions are placed on new drivers when they take to the roads,” Sergeant Little said.

“Having a licence is a privilege and not a right … people need to drive to not only the conditions, but to their level of experience.”
