Commuters have more parking to choose from at Craigieburn station.

A new 745 space carpark has opened at the station, boosting the total number of spaces to over 1200.

Yuroke MP Ros Spence said the new car park would benefit the whole community.

“People wanting to drive to Craigieburn station will now spend less time looking for a parking space and are less likely to need to park on surrounding streets,” Ms Spence said.

The upgrade includes a new footpath, connecting the car park to the station, and additional lighting and CCTV, to make it safer for people at all hours of the day and night.

A signalised pedestrian crossing over Potter Street and upgraded pedestrian crossing over the railway line have also been provided.

Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said the new car park was needed to meet growing demand for station parking.

“The new car park has made it much easier for people living in the rapidly growing outer northern suburbs to access public transport,” Mr Carroll said.

“The significant increase in spaces responds to the demand we are seeing for parking at stations in Melbourne’s growth areas.”

The project was supported by the federal government’s urban congestion fund, and delivered through the state government’s car parks for commuters program.

The federal government has committed $70 million to commuter car park upgrades along the northern lines.
