Donnybrook residents are urged to allow extra time for local travel during the school holidays with major works at the intersection of Donnybrook Road, the Hume Freeway and Mitchell Street in Kalkallo.
Donnybrook Road will be closed in both directions across the freeway, between the outbound freeway ramps and Brookville Drive, from 7pm September 15 to 5am September 29.
The inbound entry and exit ramps at the Hume Freeway will also close during this time. The outbound exit and entry will remain open, providing access to and from the western side of the freeway.
Motorists who live or work west of the freeway who wish to travel towards the city should detour via the outbound lanes of the freeway and u-turn at Lithgow Street, Beveridge. Heavy vehicles heading inbound from Donnybrook Road will need to detour via Mickleham or Somerton roads or Cooper Street to access the Hume Freeway.
Access between the Hume Freeway lane and roads east of the freeway will be available via a detour using Epping Road and Craigieburn Road East to the south, or using Merriang Road and Wallan-Whittlesea Road to the north.
Similar detours are required for access between Mickleham, Donnybrook and the Hume Freeway.
Drivers are being warned to plan ahead and allow up to 30 minutes extra for their journeys, while the 511 and 525 bus routes will be affected, with shuttle bus services operating between Donnybrook Station and Merrifield.
These works are part of the Donnybrook Road-Mitchell Street improvement project, which will build a dedicated left turn lane for southbound travel onto the Hume Freeway, widening of the freeway on ramp, relocated street lighting and lane resurfacing to significantly reduce peak time congestion and improve access for locals, commuters and freight operators.
