HR Uren Recreation Reserve has scored a new sports pavilion in Thomastown as part of a $4.2 million council investment.
It’ll be home to Lalor United Sloga Football Club and open for public use once the redevelopment to the pavilion, pitch and car park has been completed.
The upgrade has been extended to include a new function space and kitchen, spectator viewing area, first aid room and car park lighting.
Chair Administrator for Whittlesea Lydia Wilson said soccer participation has grown 25 per cent in the last five years and the refurbishment will allow for more locals to join the club.
“Council is focused on creating and maintaining premium sports facilities that encourage our residents to lead healthy and active lifestyles,” Ms Wilson said.
“With more than 250 members at Lalor United Sloga Football Club, we’re excited to see the club thrive in the new facility, and I look forward to seeing local residents to make use of the new grounds for some year-round exercise.”
Construction is due to start April 2022 and expected to be completed by late 2023.
