The City of Whittlesea celebrated the completion of some of its most popular spaces and the beginning of construction to others.

The now completed Mill Park Library, upgrades to Carrington Children’s Centre and the start of construction to Whittlesea Public Gardens in Lalor were part of a partnership with the Victorian Government.

More than $5.2 million was spent on these projects as part of the Growing Suburbs Fund, a seven year investment in local infrastructure in Melbourne’s growing outer suburbs.

Mill Park Library received a new outdoor learning space, an accessible entry forecourt and sensory play area.

Carrington Children’s Centre was fitted with an outdoor learning and play space designed to support the sensory, physical and spatial needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Construction is underway in Lalor as part of a $4 million refurbishment of Whittlesea Public Gardens with plans for a new playground, learn to ride area and picnic and barbecue area.

Locals can expect a new skate park, rock-climbing area, basketball courts and outdoor fitness equipment in later stages of the project.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said funding from the government helped fast track a lot of the upgrades.

“The improvements to Mill Park Library, Carrington Children’s Centre and Whittlesea Public Gardens are part of Council’s plan to create welcoming and accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities,” Ms Wilson said.
