Police investigate supermarket incident

Police are investigating an incident at a Roxburgh Park supermarket where a man allegedly used a syringe to contaminate food.

Police were called to the Woolworths Supermarket on Somerton Road, Roxburgh Park about 4.35pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of a man behaving erratically.

On arrival, police were told that a man had entered the store and contaminated a number of products by poking them with a syringe.

Customers alerted staff about the man, who spent about five minutes in the store

Police searched for the man, who is yet to be located.

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed the incident had occurred in their store.

“We’re aware of an incident at our Roxburgh Park store and assisting police with their investigation,” the spokesperson said.

“We removed all bread from the shelves last night. If customers have any concerns about bread purchased at the store yesterday, we would encourage them to return it to the store for a refund.

“Police attended the store and we have provided CCTV footage to help identify the man.”

The investigation is ongoing.
