In conjunction with Women’s Health Week, Engage Pasefika is hosting a health equity day for Pacific Islander women this Saturday.
In the first of its kind in the northern suburbs, the Broadmeadows Town Hall will play host to an exciting day.
Engage Pasefika lead community organiser Anasina Gray-Barberio is bullish about the impacts the day could have on women’s health.
“It’s an important day to bring together key health stakeholders and women from all across the community and increase our health equity,” she said.
The event is led by young pacific women and men and has been made possible due to the state government’s investment in Women’s Grassroots Grant Program.
There are already 150 women expected to attend, and they will be treated to a panel with health experts, as well as a range of health workshops.
Calwell MP Maria Vamvakinou is in full support of the day, speaking to the importance of an equitable health system that caters to everybody in the diverse community of the north.
“The burden for too long for many of our locally diverse communities has rested on communities adapting to a health system that does not embrace the cultural linguistic and social identities,” she said in the parliament on Tuesday.
“Engage Pasefika is instead implementing a system that is resilient, intersectional, and compassionate of the evolving needs of the community that it serves.”
The event is 10am-3.30pm.
