New kinder for Mickleham

More than 260 of Hume’s youngest residents will be the beneficiaries of the $1.77 million Mickleham North Kindergarten Modular.

The kindergarten, officially opened on Friday, February 11, by Hume mayor Carly Moore, and

Yuroke MP, Ros Spence, provides 264 places for both three-year-old and four-year-old kinder.

It features a two-room modular building, large outdoor area and was constructed with $1.5 million in funding from the Victorian government and $271,000 from council.

The kindergarten will form part of the Mickleham North Community Centre, which is currently under construction. One section of the centre, which features three permanent preschools, opened recently and full construction is set to be completed in the coming months.

The Mickleham North Community Centre will also include Maternal and Child Health services, visiting consultant offices, multipurpose meeting and training spaces.

“Hume City Council is committed to building world-class facilities that provide our community with local opportunities to learn and develop,” Cr Moore said.

“The Mickleham North Kindergarten Modular is providing children of families living in our growing community with access to the best educational opportunities close to home.

“We know that there are already 249 children enrolled as of this month – meaning more than 94 per cent of available places have been taken, reflecting strong demand for this service.

“Importantly, the kindergarten will be located in the Mickleham North Community Centre precinct, which will become a place that the whole community can use to connect, learn and grow.

“Council thanks the Victorian government and the Victorian School Building Authority for their contribution and construction of this vital facility.g“Our ongoing partnership with the Victorian Government is critical in delivering facilities and services that meet the needs of our growing community.”

Mickleham North Kindergarten Modular is at 115 Blackmore Road, Mickleham.
