Broadmeadows dog park a top spot for canines

A new off-lead dog park in Broadmeadows is proving to be a hit with caninesand their humans.

The John Ilhan Memorial Reserve dog park features a 1.2-metre perimeter fence and a separately fenced area for smaller dogs within the park.

Hume mayor Carly Moore said the new facility provided a safe and secure space for people to exercise their dogs.

“The park also boasts new agility training equipment, made from composite material, which includes a dog bridge, wave poles, tunnel, sit/stay platforms and hurdles,” she said.

“Regular exercise is important for our canine companions’ health and happiness, with exercise also shown to help alleviate boredom and undesirable habits such as barking or digging.”

NEW PARKS: Hume council is planning new dog parks across municipality

The park was created by the council following the success of the Craigieburn dog park.

Cr Moore said dogs using the park must be kept on a lead until they have the training to respond to voice commands. Dogs must also wear a collar and current council registration tag and be fully supervised.
