Man facing 40 charges following Kalkallo alleged stabbing

A 27-year-old man faces more than 40 charges including attempted murder, attempted aggravated burglary and aggravated car jacking after an incident which left a 26-year-old man with life-threatening injuries on Saturday night.

Police allege an altercation occurred between two men, known to each other, outside a Bells Avenue house in Kalkallo about 10pm on Saturday.

A 26-year-old Kalkallo man was allegedly stabbed and struck by a car.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he remains.

A female companion and the victim’s young daughter were home at the time.

Police allege a man fled the scene and was later involved in a pursuit with police before crashing into a barrier on Mickleham Road, Mickleham.

A police car was stolen and struck several civilian vehicles at slow speed on Barry Road.

The driver fled on foot but was arrested a short time later.

North west metro superintendent Nigel Howard said during a press conference on Sunday the “very dynamic situation” was handled well by police.

“When you look at what went on… we’ve got a man in hospital with serious injuries… a 27-year-old in custody… it could have been a lot worse than what it was,” he said.

A 27-year-old Mickleham man has been charged with multiple offences including attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury, assault, attempted aggravated burglary, dangerous driving causing serious injury, affray, aggravated car jacking, theft of a motor vehicle, threatening to assault a police officer, and numerous traffic offences.

He has also been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and criminal damage by fire in relation to a separate incident in Mickleham on Friday, April 3.

The man was remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
