Key South Morang intersection reopens

The upgrade of a key intersection in South Morang has been completed ahead of schedule.

The intersection of Plenty and McDonalds and Gorge roads was closed earlier this month to allow crews to upgrade the road. It reopened this morning.

The state government said crews worked around the clock to complete three months of work in less than three weeks to widen the intersection and build a new median in preparation for the construction of new lanes.

The McDonalds and Gorge roads intersection is one of 12 intersections along Plenty Road between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road being upgraded as part of stage two of the Plenty Road upgrade.

Stage two of the project will deliver an extra lane in each direction between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road and is expected to be completed in mid-2021.

Major upgrades to the intersections at Bridge Inn Road and Francesca and Waterview drives will begin in the coming months.

Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan thanked the community for its patience during the McDonalds and Gorge roads intersection works.

Mill Park MP Lily D’Ambrosio said the Plenty Road upgrade would improve travel times.’

“Drivers in Melbourne’s north will soon see benefits from the upgraded intersection, improving journeys for the thousands of drivers who travel along Plenty Road each day,” she said.
