I know it’s a tough time for many in our community right now, and my thoughts are with all those who are making incredible sacrifices to keep our community safe.

I especially want to note the tens of thousands of locals who have come forward to get the jab over the past few weeks. With every vaccine administered, we’re that little bit closer to re-opening our community and getting back to doing what we love.

For me, getting vaccinated was about seeing our community thrive again. I’ve lived in Hume for over two decades and represented our area at both the local and state level.

I know what we’re capable of, and I’ve seen first-hand the incredible drive and determination that locals have. Once we’re on the other side of this, I can’t wait to see our community in action once more.

I’m determined to give our community the resources we need to hit the ground running when we’re open again.

That means delivering the education opportunities local students deserve, because a great neighbourhood school close to home can make a huge difference in the lives of young people.

Labor has delivered six new schools in this term alone, with the final two set to open in 2022.

But we’re not done yet, with a secondary school for Mickleham on the way and a Special Development School in Craigieburn both funded for construction.

These schools will open in 2023 and will serve our community for many years to come.

We’ve also seen just how important health care is to local families, especially high-level care as close to home as possible.

Labor has already delivered a 24-hour community pharmacy in Craigieburn to give every parent the confidence they need that help will be available even in the very early hours of the morning.

And with a brand-new community hospital opening in 2024, specialist services will be available in our own neighbourhood. This facility will include specialist consulting rooms, diagnostic rooms, public dental and allied health services.

This will make a big difference for people who currently have to travel long distances to access these services while taking pressure off other services right across our community.

This is a small snapshot of what we’re doing to improve our local community, but to stay up-to-date please follow me on Facebook at @RosSpenceMP.

Stay safe and take care.
