Police are hoping to speak to a witness of an Epping hit and run incident on Monday, February 22.

Greensborough Highway Patrol members are appealing to the driver of a vehicle who stopped to assist a 58-year-old school crossing supervisor to come forward.

The South Morang man had been removing flags from a Findon Road crossing at 9am when he was struck by a silver vehicle.

The collision caused the man to fall onto the road and roll into the gutter.

He was later transported to hospital with upper body injuries, where he remains.

Investigators have been told that a female driver in a maroon or burgundy vehicle was driving behind the offending vehicle.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, stopped to assist the man, but was not able to stay for the police arrival.

She is described as having dark brown shoulder length hair and possibly of European descent. She told witnesses she was on her way to work.

Investigators believe the offending vehicle stopped a short distance away from the scene before driving away without the driver offering assistance.

The vehicle is believed to be a small silver or grey sedan with Victorian registration plates.

The driver is believed to have been a female Caucasian, about 50-years-old with light brown hair.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or CCTV from nearby is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
