The citybound lanes of the Hume Freeway, Craigieburn, are closed between the Hume Highway and Amaroo Road, due to a truck rollover.

Traffic delays on the freeway are building rapidly in both directions, according to the Department of Transport.

Motorists are being directed by Victoria Police along a brief detour onto the Hume Highway exit, then back onto the freeway from Amaroo Road.

Those travelling to Epping may consider exiting the freeway at Wallan-Whittlesea Road, Wallan or at Donnybrook Road, Kalkallo and using Epping Road instead.

“We ask drivers to be patient when travelling on the Hume Freeway and on surrounding roads, and to merge safely,” the department said.

“This closure is under Victoria Police control. The road will re-open when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.”

The VicRoads signals team is monitoring conditions and will adjust traffic lights as needed to minimise congestion along the detour.

Real-time traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicTraffic mobile app. The latest public transport information and network status is available at ptv.vic.gov.au or in the PTV mobile app.
