Residents affected by last month’s fire at Plenty Gorge Parklands, and emergency services workers involved in controlling the blaze have met with Victorian Governor Linda Dessau.
Ms Dessau visited the gorge earlier this month to speak with nearby residents about how the fire affected them.
She also attended a morning tea to thank the CFA, MFB, police, Parks Victoria and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning for their work controlling the fire.
A fire started in the Tanunda Wetlands area of Plenty Gorge Parklands about 9am on December 30.
Parks Victoria said strong winds caused the fire to spread south-east, with embers carried outside the park onto council land and into residential areas up to five streets away.
An emergency warning was issued for Bundoora, Greensborough and Mill Park, urging people to take shelter. Many people chose to evacuate their homes.
According to Parks Victoria, about 58 hectares of parkland was burnt.
The cause of the fire being investigated by police.
Plenty Gorge Parklands remains closed south of Gorge Road.
Parks Victoria said the length of the closure would depend on a range of factors, including the weather and the way the environment recovers after the fire.
