A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after hitting a number of cars parked in four different Epping streets last night.

Police said the 48-year-old Epping man was driving a white Toyota in Healey Drive, Ilani Street, Saunders Crescent and Lancia Court, when he hit with the cars.

Police believe the vehicle also hit a number of light poles and street signs in the area.

Ilani Street resident John Anastasiou said he heard a bang that sounded like fireworks about 12.30am.

“I saw my neighbour’s car [that was hit] on the nature strip,” Mr Anastasiou said.

“[The driver] went down the street, got to the dead end, reversed out, smashed another car, and turned around to [do it again].”

Neighbour David Williams took his step-mum in his car to follow the driver.

“We wanted to try and catch him to prevent further damage,” Mr Williams said.

“I’m surprised no one was hurt… one family across the road has lost two cars, and they’ve got kids,” he said.

Police said the Toyota and five other vehicles were extensively damaged during the incident.

Residents apprehended the man and confiscated his keys.

Police are continuing to investigate.
