Driver charged after erratic driving on Hume Freeway

Police have charged a man after an alleged erratic driving incident in Craigieburn.

A 26-year-old Mernda man faces multiple charges following an alleged erratic driving incident in Craigieburn last night.

Police said the charges follow their attempted interception of a 2018 Subaru XV at 9.30pm along the Hume Freeway.

The vehicle is alleged to have been travelling at high speed along the Hume Freeway before going onto the Western Ring Road and Tullamarine Freeway.

The driver was arrested in Derrimut after allegedly attempting to flee the area on foot.

He faces charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a drug of dependence, possession of identity documentation with intent to commit an indictable offence and dangerous driving while being pursued by police.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates Court today.

A 24-year-old Colac woman who was in the vehicle at the time was released, pending further enquiries.
