Epping man charged over guard sex assault

A 72-year-old Epping man has been charged over an alleged sexual assault on a young man in South Morang last week.

The 18-year-old victim was working at a security check point at the entrance to a store at a shopping centre in South Morang last Tuesday when he was assaulted about 7pm.

The offender complimented the Doreen teenager on his figure and touched his waist before entering the store.

Police media officer Danielle Fleeton said he approached the victim again, sexually assaulted him before walking away.

Sergeant Brad Turney said the Epping man handed himself into Mill Park police station about 8.30am on Monday morning.

He has been transferred to Epping police station for questioning by the sexual offences and child investigative team.

Sergeant Turney said the man is not known to police.

The victim and the offender were known to one another.

Police released a still from closed circuit footage of a man they wanted to speak to over the incident.

It was widely shared on social media.
