Passengers will be able to board trains faster at Donnybrook station, after the city-bound platform was extended.
The extension means the station is now able to accommodate five and six carriage trains, allowing passengers to board from any door.
The state government expects the platform extension will reduce the amount of time trains spend at the station by two minutes, helping to reduce delays on the Seymour line.
Yan Yean MP Danielle Green said the Donnybrook community was growing fast.
“As more people use the station, it’s important they have improved facilities and services to ensure less delays and more reliable journeys for passengers on the Seymour line,” she said.
A new carpark is also under construction at the station, providing 150 extra spaces, including accessible parking. Two new bus bays, a drop-off zone and a taxi rank are being created.
The upgrade is expected to be completed later this year.
The carpark upgrade and platform extension were funded from the state and federal governments; $1.75 billion Regional Rail Revival program, which aims to improve safety, access and comfort for passengers.
Yuroke MP Ros Spence said: “It’s exciting to see work underway on Donnybrook Station’s new carpark – just another example of how we’re working to cater for the growing communities in this region.”
